I’m so glad the parents were involved in their sons’ lives. They truly had their best interest at heart and made sure their obtained their own dreams and multiple streams of income at a young age.

In the nineties all the way to modern times their were loads of songs praising mothers like Mama Dear by Kill Kill, Dear Mama by Tupac, A Song for Mama, by Boyz II Men, Blue by Beyonce, Hey Mama by kanye West and lots of others. hardly any song tributes was made for dads by Rap and R and B artist. And even mothers days seem to get more attention then fathers day. Clearly the OP is giving shot outs to fathers because fathers do not get the level of recognition that they deserve.

@@rrg I was born and raised in Los Angeles, Ca in 1971. I remember these days for sure.. L.A. was a wonderful place back then.. K.J.L.H. Front Page at 5am weekdays.. Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye.. these young men.. the Boys... the music before gangsta rap.. our music was beautiful and full of emotion and life.. so yea.. the good ol' days for sure...
One of my happiest childhood memories was dancing around my lit up Christmas tree and Dial my heart was playing on the radio.

I am happy to learn that The Boyz continued to become independent thinkers, culturally literate, and in control of their own destinies. I am very proud of them. I produced a documentary decades ago called GETTING BABY OFF THE BOTTLE, to which these young artists lent their talent in Los Angeles, CA. They were wonderful, helping us spread the message about the dangers of alcohol. I never heard from them again. But I am eternally grateful to them and to their parents, and I wish them all a happy new year 2022. Carmen Hayward-Stetson
They did very well in the end. A lot of artists just spiral out of control but these men turned their blessings into even bigger blessings. Thank GOD they had parents that looked out for them and were so supportive. Their parents decided to make such a wise decision to educate themselves by taking classes that helped their kids.

Wow this was such a nice story. I loved the fact that they were so open minded well traveled & went back to Africa. It’s beautiful to see black men exploring and living well not dealing with America’s racism. And I love how they continued performing doing what the loved. And shout out to the parents for keeping them grounded 👏🏾👏🏾 Very nice to see where life took them.
True, I see a lot of people complaining about how horrible and racist and WS this country is but they never travel to or do anything to support countries with majority black population and/or places where their ancestors come from in Africa. If America is not for us then why stay?
This had nothing to do with race. They did what they did uniquely to themselves and two of them came back to the US to live. So, lets let there story be no more no less than that. All of this happened way before the 2020 madness and it seems even before the 2013 Trayvon thing. They were wildly blessed kids and individuals that didn't let the world conquer them.

I remember them from the 80’s. I had an uncle who was crazy about their music. I’m so glad they didn’t sink into self destructive habits such as the drug addictions so many stars we cease hearing from do. It is a comfort to know they are well and healthy. I think their parents are definitely to be commended for this!

I had these fellahs in heavy rotation on my Walkman and Boom Box in Junior High and High School so I was scared to watch this video, thinking their story ended in tragedy. Such a relief to hear their parents never lost sight of raising them right as a priority and protected them throughout their success and didn't let any evils in. Their story would make an awesome biopic (if it hasn't been done yet).

I miss those days too 💜💗I'm 33, so I was born the same year their first album came out. R&B is my favorite genre of music; especially from the 70's, 80's and 90's. I always wondered what happened to them. I wondered about more R&B groups like them from the 80's and 90's like Another Bad Creation, The Gyrlz etc. I'm glad that they're doing well. Their parents deserve a lot of credit for staying involved in their lives when it came to the business side of the music industry. Their father wasn't playing around and that is a good thing. I remember these guys they were huge. But by the time their third album came out in 1992 gangsta rap took over. That wasn’t their style and was the reason they got lost in the industry. Luckily they had great parents protecting. Most kid groups always has a member that’s either dead or in prison. But all of them avoided that.

As I remembered it, the Boys wanted more creative control over their music as they transitioned through the second LP and into the third. Hakeem was becoming a solid producer and engineer in the studio, and they all were improving as songwriters and vocalists. The idea to be gangster in sound and appearance for ‘Saga’ was THEIR idea, not Motown’s. They held their ground when the label didn’t promote that record or the singles from it, and walked away on their own terms. Awesome story not only about the Suns themselves, but also about their parents.

The Earth, Wind & Fire video that The Boys appeared in was the "System of Survival (SOS)" video. It was a short appearance but the kids could move so I always remembered that little part of the video. They looked like they were having fun and the song jammed when it came out. It was a different sound for EWF as they were trying to keep up with the changing music vibe that The Boys were riding at the time. Those were my DJ'ing days and the music was good.

I always wondered what happened to them. Glad to know they did, and are doing, well. Glad parents were heavily involved. Love their vegan journey and living abroad story. Love them even more.
